Tour & Luncheon at the Historical Society

Bonne, Linda Bonne, Maryanne

Around 11AM, I set out for the Historical Society tour, arriving a little late, but I did catch up with our group- mostly '65-ers again- on a walk-through of Sally's pride and joy. Our guide, Graham and another young assistant were obviously proud to show us specific exhibits. Did you know that Buffalo is the home of lots of innovative technology? The Moog synthesizer, the flashing dance floor as featured in John Travolta's movie Flashdance. Graham showed us a train model room (1/87's of life-sized) with complete tiny buildings demonstrating turn-of-the-century architecture.

After the tour, we posed for a group picture on the steps in the blazing afternoon sun- we hope to see that picture in the Society's archives in years to come- and then walked to an outbuiilding on the grounds to a sumptuous luncheon prepared again by Michael, the fabulous caterer. A large square table, seating perhaps 5 or 6 people on each side, conducive to group interchanges- Sally, you think of everything! White table linens, Blue Onion china, lovely goblets with thin slices of lemon awaiting icy water. Strangely, I can't remember what the entree was, but I remember the crisp green beans, and the trays of petits-four at the end of the meal. The Historical Society afternoon was a reminder of what a wonderfully gracious city Buffalo can be.
